Around February-time last year I booked tickets on a bit of a whim to Copenhagen. I'd never been to Scandinavia, and Copenhagen looked historically beautiful but also gritty and interesting.. flights were cheap and so in my basket they went. When we stepped off the plane at the end of November, it was freezing in that bright-blue-skies-meet-biting-cold sort of way which I love, and immediately we went out exploring around the Tivoli Gardens, which was all set up for Christmas. Side note - it's a bit bloody expensive everywhere in the city  to eat and drink but also worth it. The food was fab, lots of bakeries especially and try War Pigs if you go for meat, sides and a million beers to choose from. There seemed to be a huge selection of lagers on offer, but £8-10 a pint seems standard (husband Dav wasn't best pleased but as I was 32 weeks pregnant at the time it helped even out the bar bill..!).

Over the few days we were there we did a ton of walking around and general exploring. We started at the Little Mermaid before walking down to Nyhavn (that oh-so-famous strip of colourful buildings by the water), through the centre and walked up the Rundetaarn, and popped into the Carlsberg Museum before going to Vesterbro on the evening. A highlight was definitely Christiania the next day - a freetown and autonomous neighbourhood which felt and looked like an all-year-round Glastonbury. It was insanely colourful and just fascinating.

Here are a selection of my favourites from a few days there. An amazing mish-mash of a city where grit meets beauty perfectly.. Just bring more money than you'd like to for the beer fund.
