BARN WEDDING VENUES IN THE NORTH WITH 'WOW' FACTOR // WEDDING INSPIRATION
For 2020 I thought I would start a new mini series of ‘inspiration’ blog posts. I see such beautiful ideas come to life at weddings and I really felt it was a shame not to showcase some of them, support and show off some local venues and suppliers and to get some extra wedding inspiration out into the world!
To start, I’m sharing some of my favourite barn venues that I’ve worked at in the glorious North. Each one has so much character and makes a wonderful setting for different reasons.. You can also click through and see examples of weddings at each venue to explore a little deeper if you’d like to.
So here are some of my favourites (in no particular order) - enjoy!
LOW HALL // LAKE DISTRICT
To start, a venue that I only shot at for the first time very recently! Low Hall near Cockermouth is where to go for some spectacular Lake District views, a cottage that looks like something out of Beatrix Potter, and a barn that can host from your ceremony to your partying into the night. The cottage also has a number of double rooms for you and your guests meaning a cosy bed is two minutes away at the end of the night.. The owners are lovely and fab to work with (I was made a cup of tea on arrival - so rare - and was over the moon!) and it really is somewhere you can make your own - so charming and such an incredible setting.
WRAYS BARN AT WHINSTONE VIEW // NORTH YORKSHIRE
A firm favourite with local Teesside couples - Whinstone View Lodges and Bistro in North Yorkshire. A beautiful barn with outdoor deck area.. you can marry here or just celebrate afterwards - it’s a beautiful blank canvas and no two weddings I’ve shot here have been the same. I’ve had luxe, elegant weddings (like the one below), botanical inspired weddings with long trestle tables, classic wedding styling.. it’s a beautiful venue and only a five minute drive from beloved Roseberry Topping too.
TITHE BARN // NORTH YORKSHIRE
It was my first time at Tithebarn at Bolton Abbey in 2019, I’d heard amazing things and it didn’t disappoint. The barn is huge and can accommodate big numbers but still feels quite cosy, there is an enclosed garden at the back with views of the abbey, a bar in the middle section and a dancefloor ready to go at the other end. It’s views are stunning and it’s in such a beautiful part of the world (I’m biased, but it’s also true). Well worth checking out.
YORK MAZE // NORTH YORKSHIRE
Oh I’ve loved working at York Maze at a few different weddings in the past. A beautiful barn setting, ajacent bar area, and another huge adjacent barn for ceremonies and evening celebrations too. There’s a rustic courtyard for welcome drinks, and a huge playground (mainly loved by the adults, it has to be said), complete with huge trampoline cushion which always goes down a storm. A fun and beautiful venue with lots of opportunities for photographs too.
PRIORY COTTAGES + WEDDING BARN // WEST YORKSHIRE
Priory Cottages and Wedding Barn is an old venue modernised to make it pretty perfect for a wedding celebration. There is accommodation on site for you and guests, an amazing upstairs ceremony room in the barn (just look at that confetti shot opportunity too) and then attached is a marquee, hidden from view, just behind. There are grounds and some lovely spots for photos, and we enjoyed nipping out to make the most of the courtyard and views for a few family pics and portraits.

THE YORKSHIRE WEDDING BARN // NORTH YORKSHIRE
One of my favourites is the Yorkshire Wedding Barn at Gilling West near Richmond. A beautiful purpose-built barn surrounded by barns and cottages for guests to stay in (with hot tubs, I might add), beautiful views of rolling hills.. The Yorkshire Wedding barn is a beautiful and stylish barn setting, perfect for Summer and cosy for the cooler months. I’ve loved shooting here (and I’m very much looking forward to being back there soon for a wedding this May!)

SANDHOLE OAK BARN // CHESHIRE
I was so impressed by Sandhole Oak Barn near Congleton. Another beautiful setting with gardens, views over a lake, farm buildings and then the stunning barn. There are two sections to the barn, one for the ceremony and dancing, and a longer room with lake views for the meal and speeches. It’s lucky enough to be in a spot with some beautiful light at the end of the day (a bonus for every photographer) and there were plenty of spots for photo opporunities. Loved it.
