2021 // WHAT. A. YEAR.

I think it’s safe to say that 2021 was an incredible year for weddings.

Circumstances were still a little bizarre and difficult at times, but this year brought SO much joy as we all played ‘catch up’ with all of those big life moments we’d put on hold for so long. We all appreciated seeing friends and family, hugging, celebrating, dancing, and singing our hearts out on the dance floor more than ever before. It’s a year most of us will never forget.

So many couples who had made heart-wrenching decisions to move and change plans (sometimes over and over again) finally got to tie the knot.. It wasn’t necessarily a smooth ride for 2020 couples who had postponed or those who had always planned for 2021 - I had so many of my brides and grooms telling me that they didn’t dare get excited until the last minute.

Some isolated ahead of their days, LFT-ing and crossing fingers became a normal part of everyday life, some guests were too nervous to come and last minute positive tests from some friends and family seemed somewhat inevitable.. I’m in awe of my couples who stayed calm and resilient throughout, some for the second year running; I’m so glad you all finally got to say ‘I do’.

There were such big emotions at these days, couples clinging to each other saying “we actually did it!” and guests who turned up ready to celebrate hard and make up for lost time - it was 100% worth the wait and these are moments that will be remembered for years to come.

Last year was also the most intense wedding season I think any of us in the industry had ever experienced! Everyone was so excited to be back doing what they loved and for business to feel a bit more normal again (saying that, I think all of us would be grateful not to squeeze 1-2 years worth of work into 6 months again!). BIG love to everyone in the industry who worked so tirelessly to make everyone’s events incredibly special despite probably running on empty at times last year - if we can all manage the chaos of 2020 and 2021 then we can manage anything!

SO! 2021. It started when the tiniest weddings were allowed and I ventured all the way up to beautiful Glencoe for an incredible elopement; it was the stuff of dreams, and the most perfect way to get back into the swing of things after those bleak first few months of lockdown. Soon after, I shot two very special and intimate weddings of under 30 guests (in the days before one of them it was announced that we could all now hug again - what a bizarre time!) By Summer nearly all restrictions for weddings were lifted. Dance floors were full, bands played, shapes were thrown, friends and family sung, dance, hugged and kissed; it felt like any nerves and tension dissipated and all the magic came flooding back.

So, without any more waffling on, here are some favourites from the incredible, intense and unforgettable year of weddings that 2021 was. To my couples - it was an absolute joy to be part of each and every one of your days, thanks again for having me there to capture it all and help you celebrate!

Bring on 2022!
