Nick & Stu | Ham Yard Hotel Soho London City Wedding

Nick and Stuart's Ham Yard Hotel wedding last summer landed me in London town, right in the heart of Soho. Nick and Stu emailed me their timings for the day and their plans prioritised mingling time with canapés, cocktails and, later, a surprise cinema screening.. I *knew* this was going to be a fabulously non-wedding-y-wedding to remember..

Nick proposed to his long-term partner Stu in amazing fashion during a trip to New York City after 12 years together. They both wanted to plan a Ham Yard wedding to suit them, without following typical expectations.. it was going to be cool, casual and alternative. Their dog, Harold, accompanied them all day too, looking pretty dapper himself in a fresh-flower collar.

Nick explains, “I think it’s easy to have what’s expected for a London wedding, but we decided to do away with lots of convention and instead focus on having a good time. For instance, buffets and wedding discos are not our thing, so we instead chose canapés and then headed to reservations at a late Soho bar to continue our night.”

On the day, Nick looked super-stylish in printed trousers from Paul Smith, teamed with a Kenzo shirt, Moss Bros. tie and jacket and a pair of super-smart shoes by Christian Louboutin. Complementing his partner, Stu looked smart in a navy three-piece suit from Noose & Monkey accompanied with a Reiss shirt, Converse trainers and a vintage bowtie.

When asked about their favourite memories from their Ham Yard Hotel wedding, Nick says “We both agreed that our favourite moment was sitting in the private cinema that we hired in the hotel. We sat right at the back and it just gave us a chance to see all of our guests and the reaction to the film clips that we decided to show them. It was a totally surreal and humbling moment to get to see all those people there to celebrate our love.”

As expected, snapping Nick and Stuart’s Ham Yard Hotel wedding was so much fun. The day was so relaxed and centred around so much social time that it was lovely to capture 'as it was', but we still had time to venture out into Soho in the early evening for photos too.. accompanied by handsome pooch Harold too, obviously.

“Our favourite image and the one we have framed next to our front door is a shot of Stu and our four best men and women, stood against a window in Soho”, explains Nick, “The vinyl decal in the window reads ‘Big Love’ and it totally sums up the day for us both. It’s kind of the ultimate ‘anti-wedding photo’ and that makes it even more special…”
