Amongst wedding chaos I really love to squeeze in photographing families too. It’s a totally different type of shoot. I love when I get to hang out with a family and really capture them as they are. No studio stuff, no gimmicks.. families at home or out and about just being their true selves. I love seeing characters come through, meeting families at special points in their lives and also for capturing the everyday.. I love being there to capture play fights, tickles,, cuddles on the bed.. capturing kids being wild, playing with a favourite toy, pulling funny faces, quiet moments and moments of chaos. It’s all magical for a million different reasons. These times are so fleeting and every stage is worth capturing.
Read MoreAny excuse to have a little cuddle with a beautiful newborn baby.. meet baby Emily! Another wonderful little girl for Rebecca and Andy. It was such a joy to be back visiting this beautiful family and being there to capture this point in time while Emily was only two weeks old. Big sisters Sophie and Beatrice were totally smitten and so gentle with their little sister but also full of beans with each other - so much fun to capture!
Read MoreAutumn feels so far away now, doesn’t it?! I met up with Alison, Jacob, Melody and Abigail for an engagement/family shoot ahead of their April 2020 wedding. I suggested Ropner Park because I knew the colours at the beginning of November would be amazing to work with.. it was a bright crisp Autumn day and it was wonderful to hang out with this beautiful family and hear about how their wedding plans are all going.
Read MoreIt was so wonderful to see Rebecca, Andy and their girls again! Last year I’d shot their wider family (Rebecca’s parents, her siblings and their partners and kids) so it was extra special to see them all again at this time with a new baby on the way. Sophie and Beatrice were so fun and such happy girls.. totally excited to be big sisters to the new baby.
Read MoreI loved spending an hour or so with these four - little Henry was only a few weeks old and I’ll always love a little cuddle with a new baby. I visited Ruth, Max, Albert and Henry at home at this special point in their lives to capture them in their own surroundings. Albert showed me around his room and some of his favourite toys, and I got some shots of them all playing, cuddling, hanging out and being themselves. It never stops being incredibly special to be there to document families at such special and fleeting times in their lives.
Here are a handful of favourites from the time I spent with this lovely lot..

Read MoreOh these two! It was so special to be back with this beautiful family capturing them in their home. Last time I was there was two years ago when Bhodi was 6 months, and now Rufus has joined the gang too. I couldn’t resist getting them both back in this amazing wooden moon that Colin made them..
Read MoreWelcome to the world Elsie! And congratulations to Natalie, Joel and big brother Ernie!
It was so special to meet Elsie at eleven days old and spend a few hours with the Guy family capturing them as a new family of four - she was such a little dream and Ernie is clearly going to be an absolutely wonderful and proud big brother.
…and then there were four! You may have seen a recent family/maternity shoot I did with Anna, Scott and Isabelle.. but now it’s time to meet Lucy!
Read MoreThe sun actually came out for my photo session with the Wardle family! It had rained all week, but I was so excited for a window of actual sunshine to work with that Sunday morning with them all in beautiful Preston Park in Eaglescliffe. Becky had booked a family shoot for her Mum’s birthday (a pretty solid gift idea, just saying..) and we spent an hour or so wandering, letting the kids run and play, and stopping along the way to grab a few family portraits too.
Read MoreI really do love family shoots at home and this is why.. it was so lovely to do some family/bump photos with Anna, Scott and Isabelle with baby number two a week away from their due date. Anna wanted some really relaxed and natural photos at home while they were a family of three and it was a lovely time to capture with them all. Here are a few favourites.. watch this space for another family shoot with baby number two soon!
Read MoreFamily photography at home is one of my favourite settings for pictures.. there’s such beauty in the everyday and I love capturing these ‘normal’ but special moments in time. I spent some time this morning with Emma, Brent and Nieve at their home for some relaxed family photographs.
Read MoreI recently had the pleasure of spending an hour or so with the Riley family. As soon as I got the the door Toby shouted “Sally’s here!” and went on to show me around their home while we took some relaxed family photos, together with his Mum, Dad and baby sister Violet. It was a lovely sunny day and just about warm enough to get outside for a few photos too.
Read MoreIt was so special to visit Leah and Sam at home and to be there to capture some photographs of Zachary at seven weeks old. These three were a pleasure to spend an hour or so with - such a calm and peaceful house, and at the point where, a few weeks in, they’d really hit their stride and was bossing being new parents.
Read MoreAnother 2018 review for you all today, but today it’s all about family shoots!
I’ve really come to love family shoots over the past few years, and I’m lucky enough to sometimes shoot the same families again and again which feels all kinds of wonderful. Sometimes it happens where I’ve shot a couples’ wedding and they go on to start a family, and I can be there to document the next chapter too!
Read MoreFull disclosure.. I’ve known Lou since Year 7 when we were in the same form group and we’ve been close friends ever since. It’s a wonderfully bizarre thing to go through so much ‘growing up’ together, through early teenage years, the messy ‘going out out’ years, uni, beyond.. it’s been so special to watch her get married, have her first baby Massimo, and then bring his little brother, Elio, into the world too. The magic of everyday life. That’s what it’s all about.
Read MoreIt was such a joy to meet Isabella - a fabulous little character, full of beans and busy exploring and playing with everything, and looking like the perfect mix of her Mum and Dad.. I joined the three of them at their home, and we got some natural shots of them being the wonderful family that they are.
Read MoreOh what a perfect day for a family shoot.. A hot, sunny Summer's day in June.. The little ones powered and played around the garden and it was bliss - what childhood is all about. I shot a mix of family groups - the shoot was four sisters with their respective partners and little ones - and kids being kids.. Meet the Copping family. And long live the sunshine..
