2020 // LOVE + MAGIC AGAINST ALL ODDS
AKA LOCKING IT DOWN IN LOCKDOWN
My write up for my annual highlights post usually ends up sounding pretty similar year on year but I don’t think I’m in any danger of that after 2020. What the actual fuck have we all been through?! It started strong with high hopes and us all welcoming a brand new decade; we set goals, made plans.. and then the shit hit the fan.
ANYWAY, I’m not here to dwell, this is an end-of-year highlights post after all. I shot a low fewer weddings than expected this year (11 out of 40 in the end); there was so much uncertainty, diary management, admin, so many conversations about plans with my wonderful and patient couples.. it was *a lot*, but then restrictions lifted for weddings and all the magic and love came flooding back.
This year has seen:
A first dance to a brass band in the car park when receptions weren’t allowed // elbows bumped and kisses blown // a wedding planned in three days to get in before November Lockdown 2.0 // face masks for guests hastily made to match outfits // a wedding allowed to have 30 guests with only a day to spare // champagne toasts from a car boot in a lay-by following a ceremony in Tier 3 // sanitiser table favours // would-have-been wedding guests waiting outside ceremonies to show their love from a distance // Zoom and Facebook broadcasts from church..
It’s been love and magic against all odds.
[Saying that, the only wedding talk I want to hear of bubbles going forward should exclusively mean champagne or as an alternative to confetti..]
I’d like to say a huge well done to all my amazing 2020 couples for getting through this year. Love wasn’t cancelled, whether you postponed your date or whether you hung on and worked with what you were able to do - you’ve all been absolute troopers through this whole thing; so patient, so understanding, so resilient. It’s been the most emotional and joyful time celebrating with those of you who have been able to marry this year, and I can’t wait to celebrate with those of you who have moved your date. Just imagine all of those people in one room together.. it will happen again! Here’s to 2021 with all the crowded rooms, bear hugs and sweaty dance floors.. I can’t wait.
There is a light at the end of the tunnel and the countdown is ON to brighter days ahead.
2020 HIGHLIGHTS
TEN YEARS IN BUSINESS
This year I also celebrated ten years in business! It’s obviously been a total trip this year but I’m still feeling very lucky to be working doing something I love. I started my business when my eldest daughter was a year old and it’s been a tonne of work to build it up; it’s grown every year. Here is a glimpse at my work through the years..
STOP MOTION WEDDING FILMS
A lot of weddings this year ended up being short coverage but I was lucky enough to be able to create a few films along the way. I can’t wait to get back to making more in 2021. Here’s how 2020 looked in stop motion..
2020 COUPLES
To celebrate this extraordinary year I decided to give each couple their own mini highlight reel this year too. Starting with pre-COVID weddings in February, then ceremony only, fuller weddings of 30 later in Summer, then scaled back Tier 2 and 3 celebrations.. Meet the couples who managed to say ‘I do’ this year..
